Sister Marie Victoria Bartkowski

Sr. Vicky embraced the mission set forth by the Foundress of the Franciscan Felician Sisters, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, to whom she had a special connection and devotion.
January 8, 1943 – February 22, 2023

Sister Marie Victoria Bartkowski (Sr. Vicky), of Wallington entered eternal life, surrounded by her beloved Felician Sisters, on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023. She was 80. Sister Vicky was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on January 8th, 1943 to Leonard and Wanda (Gulczynski) Bartkowski; she was one of twelve children and the third youngest. Sister Vicky was raised in Delaware, and was attending high school when her parents died. In 1961, at the age of eighteen, Victoria Bartkowski made the decision to dedicate her life to one of service and devotion to the Lord. She embraced the mission set forth by the Foundress of the Franciscan Felician Sisters, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, to whom Sister Vicky had a special connection and devotion. Sister Vicky had many accomplishments during her career in education, and taught in parochial schools throughout Delaware and New Jersey. She had also been the Principal at Holy Cross High School in Dover, Delaware, and Principal of Immaculate Conception High School in Lodi, New Jersey. She had served as the RCIA Director for the Diocese of Camden, as well as a Pastoral Associate at St. Bridget University Parish in Glassboro, New Jersey and Nativity Parish in Burke, Virginia. Sister was honored by the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey, where she received the Bishop’s Distinguished Medal of Honor. Sister Vicky has been serving in Wallington, New Jersey at the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church since 1999, where she has been the Formation and Pastoral Associate. Sister was active in the Most Sacred Heart Rosary Confraternity, and could always be found selling lottery tickets at the Parish Picnic. 

After a funeral Mass at the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel, Sister Marie Victoria Bartkowski was laid to rest at the Felician Sisters’ Cemetery, Lodi, NJ.

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
