History of the Convent
In 2010, as eight former provinces merged into one, the Felician Sisters of North America acquired and renovated a property in Beaver County that was originally Hillcrest School. Built around a central courtyard, this 20,000 square-foot building serves as provincial headquarters and includes rooms for the sisters on one side, with conference rooms, offices and a chapel on the other. A statue of Our Lady of Hope in the lobby provides a reminder of God’s faithful presence. In the chapel, stained-glass windows designed by a Felician Sister depict St. Francis’s Canticle of the Creatures, while works of sacred art throughout the building represent gifts from former provinces. Visible from the road, a solar panel array powers the building and testifies to the sisters’ commitment to sustainability.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
