On Sunday, Aug. 16, at the St. Joseph Convent in Pomona, California, Monica Edaburn made her commitment to the Felician Sisters candidacy program.
Monica’s family joined her for the humble service, which included an invitation to formalize her acceptance as a candidate. After the signing of the documents, Sr. Mary Therese Ann Parobek, local minister, presented Monica with a blessed Tau cross. The Sisters then circled Monica and prayed the blessing of Felician Foundress Blessed Mary Angela over her.
At the conclusion of the prayer, Monica listened to a special recorded message from provincial minister Sr. Mary Christopher Moore and provincial councilor and director of formation Sr. Suzanne Marie Kush, who were unable to attend in person due to COVID-19 restrictions.
A 2018 graduate of Pomona Catholic High School, Monica is entering her junior year at the University of LaVerne, where she majors in elementary education. She hopes to graduate in 2022 with her bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate.
Mrs. Edaburn commented, “Monica’s father and I knew that we would one day have to share our daughter with somebody. Little did we know that that ‘somebody’ would be the Felician Sisters!” Candidacy is the second step in the formation process, which follows a period of inquiry.
Candidacy signals that a woman is looking to begin the journey toward life as a Felician Sister. Her acceptance as a candidate is an invitation to join us in prayer, ministry and conversation. A candidate typically continues to live in her own home, continuing to participate in her chosen profession or job, volunteer service and Catholic faith.
