What is a Jubilee?
A Felician Sister gives her life to Christ, promising fidelity to a community, embracing the mission of Blessed Mary Angela, and dedicating herself to a life of service. And just as married people mark anniversaries, remembering the promises made and the lives touched, a sister celebrates her anniversary, called a jubilee.
The concept of a “jubilee” has biblical origins. The word “jubilee” comes from the Hebrew word jobel, which means “ram’s horn,” because the ram’s horn was used as a trumpet, sounded to indicate the beginning of a jubilee year. In the code of holiness in Leviticus, the jubilee comes at the end of seven weeks of years, the fiftieth year. It is a year of rest and liberation and consolation meant to remind the ancient people that even when life gets messy and difficult, divine restoration is possible.
Counting from the date of her entrance into the community as a postulant, a Felician Sister joyfully marks the years dedicated to ministry and community. Full of gratitude and admiration for the loving examples of these sisters, we rejoice in their fidelity to Blessed Mary Angela’s mission and vision.
