Mother Angela Clinic Celebrates 8th Anniversary

Through the grace and guidance of God, a significant milestone was reached.

Nine years ago, an aspiration to provide critical medical care to people in isolated areas of Haiti was born. Today, through the grace and guidance of God, a significant milestone was reached.

Felician Mission: Haiti’s Mother Angela Clinic celebrated its 8th anniversary in March. In a country where there is only one trained doctor or nurse to care for 3,000 people, the need for the clinic is undeniable. In 2013, when the mobile clinic was only an idea, Sr. Mary Giovanni Monge, former president of Angela Hospice in Livonia, MI, shared her expertise and provided guidance on a plan to build the dream. Recognizing the urgent need and the practical strategy to launch operations, many caring and generous benefactors, especially Marybeth and Gavin O’Connor, supported the project through faith, prayer, supplies and generous ongoing support.

Staffed by a Haitian team of medical professionals, the Mother Angela Clinic travels to nearly 28 isolated mountainous areas where residents have no access to health care, including basic medical supplies like bandages, antiseptics or medication. Accessing these villages requires travel on rough, precarious, steep roads, resulting in more frequent repair and replacement of tires, shocks, and other vehicle parts. The mobile clinic’s consistent delivery of care throughout the past eight years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, has given health and hope to more than 57,000 people.

Anniversary festivities in Jacmel included a special mass celebrated by Fr. Bertrand Dieuveille, director of Caritas for the Diocese of Jacmel, and a photographic journey recounting the memorable clinic highlights presented by Felician Mission: Haiti’s Sr. Marilyn M Minter and Sr. M Izajasza Rojek. Afterward, the Mother Angela Clinic Team enjoyed homemade cakes and quiche lovingly prepared by Sr. M Inga Borko and Sr. M Julitta Kurek.

We celebrate with joy all that the Mother Angela Clinic has done and continues to do for the people of the Diocese of Jacmel.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
