Madonna University celebrated the Feast of St. Felix of Cantalice with a musical prayer vigil in honor of the 12 Felician Sisters of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent who recently passed away.
The Sisters residing in the convent, which shares its campus with Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan, have been on quarantine in their rooms, unable to share meals or even attend funeral services for members of their community. However, many were able to open their windows and join in the outdoor celebration and others were able to watch it on Facebook Live.
Karen Sanborn, Director of University Communications, credits Diane McDonald from Marywood Care Center with first suggesting the vigil, but the staff and administration of Madonna University played important roles in the planning and execution of the event.
Jackie King, therapeutic recreation specialist at Marywood Care Center, led the group in prayerful song. The rain held off for most of the vigil, and when it rained for just a bit, Sr. Mary Ann Smith commented on Facebook, "God is sending His blessings upon all for your love and support of His Felician Sisters."
At the conclusion of the service, one of the participants shouted, "We love you, sisters!”
