May Crowning in Livonia, Michigan

Sisters at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent had an unusual Covid-era May crowning, with the local minister crowning the statue of Our Lady as sisters watched by video broadcast.

On Friday, May 1, during the daily video-broadcast of announcements from Holy Family Chapel in Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent to the Sisters quarantined in their rooms, the annual May Crowning was held.

As the hymns “On This Day, O Beautiful Mother” and “Bring Flowers of the Fairest” were sung, acting local minister Sr. Rosanne Marie Glaza crowned the statue of Our Lady.

The simple ceremony concluded with Blessed Mary Angela’s Act of Consecration prefaced by a note that the Sisters are praying in solidarity with the bishops of Canada and the U.S. who re-consecrated these countries to Our Lady for all the victims and for deliverance from the coronavirus pandemic.

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
