Operating with only essential staff, the Mooncrest Neighborhood Program (MNP) in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, is continuing to serve during the coronavirus pandemic. Although their schedule and services have been modified to protect both the staff and the community, they continue to do what they can to serve their neighbors in need.
With the closing of local schools, MNP is offering academic support and access to computers and the internet. They are staggering the sessions by grade level to limit exposure and providing snacks and lunches to compensate for those dependent on the school lunch programs. With the school closings now extended into April, MNP has been communicating with the Moon School District to plan more extensive academic support. Many teachers have also offered their support during the implementation of online learning, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 30.
Anxiety over food insecurity is also high. Many food banks have closed their doors and are not sure when they will be able to reopen. There is no access to public transportation in Mooncrest and no store within walking distance. MNP is working on plans to safely organize transportation to allow residents to get the supplies they need.
With so much uncertainty and the situation in constant flux, flexibility and creativity have been a must for the Mooncrest Neighborhood Program, but they continue to serve as they are able. Please keep the staff and those they serve in your prayers.
