The Pilgrimage Continues: Part 5 – Assisi

In Part 5 of the pilgrimage story, Felician Sisters visit Assisi.

From Cantalice, the Sister pilgrims traveled to Assisi, to walk in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare. Assisi is where these two saints were born, baptized, and called into the service of God. It is a city rich in the Franciscan spirit of simplicity.

While in Assisi, the Sisters walked in the footsteps of St. Clare from San Rufino, near her home, to the gate where she met Francis and became the first Franciscan woman.

Sister Maria Louise reflected on the experience, saying, “I could almost hear Francis saying, ‘I have done what was mine to do. Now you must find what is yours.’”

Serving where needed since 1874

Founded in Poland in 1855, the Felician Sisters are a congregation of women religious inspired by the spiritual ideals of their foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, and Saints Francis of Assisi, Clare of Assisi and Felix of Cantalice. Arriving in North America in 1874 following Blessed Mary Angela’s directive “to serve where needed,” they helped to weave the social service system. Today, the Felician Sisters founded, sponsor or support through the presence of our sisters, more than 40 ministries – all continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the people they serve.
